Officials from a number of federal departments testify as part of the committee's ongoing study of rising obesity rates in Canada. Senators hear from Rodney Ghali (director general, Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention, Public Health Agency of Canada); Dr. Hasan Hutchinson (director general, Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion at Health Canada); Dr. Jane Aubin (executive vice-president and chief scientific officer, Canadian Institutes of Health Research); Josée Bégin (director of the health statistics division at Statistics Canada); Julie Bernier (director of the health analysis division, Statistics Canada); and Dr. William Yan (director of Health Canada's food directorate).
The witnesses discuss issues such as federal and provincial initiatives to promote healthy eating habits, government research in the area of obesity, and challenges in preventing obesity. (June 18, 2015)
