In Committee from the Senate of Canada
National Finance - December 12, 2016
Members of the Barreau du Québec's Committee on Consumer Protection testify as the committee resumes its consideration of Bill C-29. Luc Thibaudeau, Réa Hawi and Yves Lauzon outline the concerns with certain proposed changes to the Bank Act that would allow banks to circumvent Quebec's consumer protection laws. Peter Harder, the government's representative in the Senate, later announces that the government was withdrawing the provisions from the budget legislation. Senators then proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of the bill. (December 12, 2016) UPDATE: Bill C-29 received royal assent on December 15.
