Health professionals are among the witnesses to testify on Bill C-37, which includes measures on supervised consumption sites, anti-drug abuse strategies, and the import and production of illicit substances. The first panel is made up of the following witnesses: Canadian Nurses Association representatives Lisa Ashley (senior nurse advisor, policy, advocacy and strategy) and Meaghan Thumath (senior public health nursing expert); Kerry Jang, (Vancouver city councillor); Dr. Perry Kendall (B.C.'s provincial health officer); and Clayton Pecknold (assistant deputy minister and director of police services, Government of B.C.). Senators then hear from Donald MacPherson (executive director, Canadian Drug Policy Coalition) and Kenneth Tupper (director of implementation and partnerships, British Columbia Centre on Substance Use).
