The committee begins its study of the government's tobacco and vaping products legislation. Bill S-5 would implement plain packaging for tobacco products. It would also regulate vaping products such as e-cigarettes as a separate class of products. The first panel is made up of Non-Smokers’ Rights Association representatives Melodie Tilson (director of policy) and Pippa Beck (senior policy analyst), as well as David Jones (policy advisor, Tobacco Harm Reduction Association of Canada). Senators then hear from Canadian Convenience Stores Association representatives Satinder Chera (president) and -Sébastien Tremblay Drolet (category manager, Couche-Tard Inc.) and National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco spokesperson Gary Grant.
