In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Legal and Constitutional Affairs - June 21, 2017
The committee conducts its clause-by-clause review of Bill C-305. Liberal MP Chandra Arya introduced his private member's bill in September 2016. It aims to expand Canada's laws on hate-based property damage, vandalism and other acts of criminal mischief. The bill also seeks to include gender identity and sexual orientation to the list of criteria used to determine whether an offence is motivated by bias, prejudice or hate. Religion, race, colour or national or ethnic origin are currently included on the list. (June 21, 2017)
