Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee Moves Closer to Self-Determination
Aboriginal Peoples - March 27, 2018: A bill allowing for greater self-governance for the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee passes through the committee’s clause-by-clause consideration stage. Participating in the study of Bill C-70 are the Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada’s Perry Billingsley and Sylvain Ouellet; the Department of Justice Canada’s Geneviève Thériault; and the Grand Council of the Cree’s (Eeyou Istchee) Grand Chief Abel Bosum, former grand chief Matthew Coon Come, Bill Namagoose, Youth Grand Chief Kaitlyn Hester-Moses, Deputy Grand Chief Mandy Gull, and Paul John Murdoch.
