Witnesses Call for Greater Tax Fairness for Hutterites
Banking, Trade and Commerce - March 29, 2018: Former speaker of the Senate Dan Hays and representatives for the Hutterite community call for greater tax fairness for Hutterites in Canada. Hutterites are one of the three major branches of the Christian Anabaptist religion, the others being the Amish and the Mennonites. Officials from the Canada Revenue Agency and the Department of Finance also appear at the committee to discuss the taxation of communal organizations. Appearing before the Senators are MNP LLP’s Gord Tait and Michelle Janz; Kings Lake Colony Farming Co. Ltd.’s John Waldner; Canada Revenue Agency’s Randy Hewlett and Stéphane Charette; as well as the Department of Finance Canada’s Pierre Leblanc.
