In Committee from the Senate of Canada - Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources - November 4, 2014

Committee members begin their pre-study hearings on C-43, the budget implementation bill. The committee is one of six Senate committees that have been separately authorized to examine particular elements of the bill.
Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada officials Stephen Van Dine, Martin Raillard and Annie Moulin brief the committee on Division 3 of Part 4. This division enacts the Canadian High Arctic Research Station Act, which establishes a new federal research organization that will conduct a broad range of science and technology research in Canada's north.
Senators then discuss Division 28 of Part 4, which will establish new reporting standards and transparency obligations for the Canadian extractive sector. Mark Pearson (Natural Resources Canada) Ben Chalmers (Mining Association of Canada), Claire Woodside, Director (Publish What You Pay-Canada), and Ekaterina Ohandjanian (Justice Canada) testify during this portion.
Jean-Frédéric Lafaille (Natural Resources Canada), Atomic Energy of Canada Limited President Robert Walker and Dominique Laporte (Treasury Board of Canada) discuss the division (29) dealing with the restructuring of AECL. (November 4, 2014)
