Agriculture and Forestry (May 1, 2012)

Senators continued to examine and report on research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector.

Jim Everson and Lisa Campbell from the Canola Council of Canada appeared before the committee. Everson spoke about the need to have access to international markets in order for the canola oil industry to succeed, while Campbell discussed various research initiatives in canola oil nutrition and crop production.

Don McCabe of the Soil Conservation Council of Canada discussed soil conservation and its importance relative to innovation in agriculture. McCabe also provided a few recommendations such as the concept of precision farming.
