Finance (September 29, 2011) The committee continued its annual pre-budget consultations, where Canadians are invited to share their priorities for the federal budget. These suggestions are included in a report that will be tabled in the House of Commons. The finance minister takes these suggestions, as well as the committee's recommendations, into consideration in the development of the 2012 budget. This year's report will be tabled in December. MPs heard from the following witnesses during the first part of the meeting: David Penney (Tax Executives Institute Inc.); Jim Quick and Maryse Harvey (Aerospace Industries Association of Canada); Zachary Dayler (Canadian Alliance of Student Associations); Sandra Schwartz (Canadian Electricity Association); Peter Cairns (Shipbuilding Association of Canada); Fraser Reilly-King (Canadian Council for International Co-operation); and Donald K. Johnson (as an individual). The following individuals testified during the second part of the meeting: Harriett McLachlan and Rob Rainer (Canada Without Poverty); James Knight (Association of Canadian Community Colleges); Alain Pineau (Canadian Conference of the Arts); Gary Grant (National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco); Normand Lafrenière (Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies); James K. Christie and Michel St-Germain (Canadian Institute of Actuaries); and Barb Mildon (Canadian Nurses Association).
