Canada’s chief electoral officer Marc Mayrand testified as part of the committee’s investigation into union sponsorships at the NDP’s recent convention this past June. The Conservative Party has filed a complaint that the NDP accepted illegal contributions from unions.

Mayrand did not comment on the specific allegations, but answered questions on the rules regarding political contributions. He also told the committee that he has referred the matter to the commissioner of elections.
