Legislative Committee on Bill C-11 (March 7, 2012)

Representatives of artists, Microsoft Canada and the software industry discussed the government's copyright reform legislation.

Ferne Downey and Warren Sheffer, representatives of the Recording Artists' Collecting Society, discussed sections of concern to artists and their recommendations for improvement. Martha Rans from Artists' Legal Outreach commented on the impact of some of the bill's proposals. Microsoft Canada's Michael K. Eisen spoke about technological protection measures and small technical fixes that the company feels is necessary to achieve the legislative intent behind the bill. Jesse Feder of the Business Software Alliance discussed elements of the bill that his industry wanted clarification or improvement on.
