Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (March 27, 2012)

Information Commissioner Suzanne Legault and Ethics Commissioner Mary Dawson discussed the main estimates for their respective offices.

Legault spoke about her department’s effort over the last year to improve the speed and efficiency of investigations. She also responded to questions concerning case management and cost reduction strategies.

During the second part of the meeting, Dawson spoke about her department’s investigation practices, caseload, and resolution of staffing issues. She was also briefly asked about her recent report on Industry Minister Christian Paradis. The commissioner concluded that he had violated the Conflict of Interest Act by arranging meetings in 2009 between his ministerial staff and former caucus colleague Rahim Jaffer.
