In Committee from the House of Commons
Citizenship & Immigration
Citizenship and Immigration (May 10, 2012) MPs continued their clause-by-clause review of Bill C-31, the government's controversial refugee reform legislation. Senior officials from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, the Department of Justice, the Canada Border Services Agency, and Public Safety Canada were also on hand to answer technical questions about the bill. During the witness stage of its review, committee members heard testimony from individuals including lawyers, government officials and groups representing refugees. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has since announced amendments to several of the more contentious measures of the bill. UPDATE: Bill C-31 received royal assent on June 28.
