Public Accounts (May 15, 2012)
Auditor General Michael Ferguson returned to the committee to discuss his spring report on the F-35 procurement process.
Ferguson was asked to elaborate on how he reached the conclusions of his critical audit concerning the replacement of Canada’s aging CF-18 fleet. He also spoke about the need to disclose full life-cycle costs for the new jets, and defended the figures he used for his controversial calculations.
The auditor general discussed his department’s spending priorities for the year in the second part of the meeting. His colleague Lyn Sachs responded to questions about departmental cost-cutting and reorganization.
