Senior government officials briefed the committee on certain measures contained in part 4 of the budget implementation bill.

Elements of Bill C-38 that were discussed in this meeting included the closure of the Rights and Democracy agency, proposed changes regarding foreign ownership rules of Canadian telecommunications companies, the elimination of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, and the increase of the duty-free limit for cross-border shoppers.

UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
