In Committee from the House of Commons - Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics

Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (May 29, 2012)

Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart and senior officials from the Department of Industry appeared before the committee to discuss privacy and social media.

The commissioner called for increased accountability, clearly worded user consent agreements, and clear limits of use for all personal data, among other suggestions. Her colleague Barbara Bucknell also responded to questions from MPs on topics including user awareness.

Department of Industry officials Janet Goulding, Bruce Wallace, and Jill Paterson spoke about Bill C-12, legislation that would amend the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, in the second part of the meeting.
