Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (May 30, 2012) Human Resources Minister Diane Finley appeared before the committee to discuss her department’s main estimates for the fiscal year. Minister Finley spoke about her spending priorities and components of the federal budget that will affect existing programs. Among the topics discussed were the new rules for Employment Insurance, raising the age of eligibility for Old Age Security benefits, and the government’s youth employment strategy. Karen Jackson, the department’s senior associate deputy minister, responded to questions about employment relocation. Karen Kinsley, president of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, also discussed her agency’s plans for the year. New oversight rules for CMHC are contained in the budget.
