MPs continued with their study of the budget implementation bill. The national security and law enforcement provisions in Bill C-38 were the main topics for this meeting.
Paul Kennedy, the former public complaints commissioner for the RCMP, discussed the decision to eliminate the Office of the Inspector General for CSIS. Jane Londerville from the University of Guelph commented on changes to Canada's mortgage financing system. Jerome Brannagan, the deputy chief of the Windsor Police, spoke about the portion of the bill that deals with maritime law enforcement operations between Canada and the United States.
Government officials Michael Zigayer (Justice Canada) and Stephen Bolton (Public Safety Canada), as well RCMP Chief Superintendent Joe Oliver, responded to questions.
UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
