Special Cooperatives
Special Cooperatives (July 24, 2012) Academics and representatives from various cooperatives testified as part of the committee's study of cooperatives. The special committee will hold summer hearings and intends to submit its report on the status of cooperatives in Canada when the House of Commons resumes sitting in September. Jeff Malloy (Acadian Fishermen’s Co-operative Association Ltd.); Bryan Inglis (Co-op Atlantic); and J. Tom Webb (Saint Mary's University) offered their perspectives during this session. The United Nations General Assembly named 2012 the International Year of Cooperatives and has encouraged member states to promote the associations as a means of social and economic development.
