Special Cooperatives (July 26, 2012)

Representatives from retail and housing cooperatives were among those who testified as the committee continued its study of cooperatives in Canada.

Shona McGlashan and Margie Parikh, who were both representing Mountain Equipment Co-op, John McBain from the Alberta Association of Co-operative Seed Cleaning Plants, and Neil Hastie from Encorp Pacific (Canada) offered their perspectives and spoke about the benefits of the cooperative business model in the first part of the meeting.

Darren Kitchen from the Co-operative Housing Federation of British Columbia and Kenneth Hood from the Kootenay Columbia Senior Housing Co-operative discussed the cooperative housing sector’s opportunities and challenges for the remainder of the session.
