Citizenship and Immigration - November 19, 2012 - Part 1
Citizenship and Immigration MPs discuss a measure to implement the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) program for screening visa-exempt foreign nationals before they depart for Canada by air. This measure is contained in the budget implementation bill (C-45). Les Linklater and Maia Welbourne, two senior officials with the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, provide an overview of the program, which they say will improve Canada's immigration system. Robert L. Bell of NextgenID Canada Inc., Martin Collacott with the Centre for Immigration Policy Reform and James Bissett (as an individual) discuss their support of the initiative during the second part of the meeting. UPDATE: Bill C-45 received royal assent on December 14.
