Foreign Affairs and International Development

Senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Department of National Defence and the Canadian International Development Agency brief committee members on the situation in Mali. Canada is providing air transport for French troops and equipment to the West African country until February 15. France is leading international efforts to drive out Islamic rebel groups who have taken over the northern of the country. The Canadian government is also providing $13 million in humanitarian aid.

Kerry Buck, an assistant deputy minister at DFAT, Major-General Jonathan Vance, head of the military's Strategic Joint Staff, and David Morrison, a senior vice-president with CIDA. testify. Patricia Malikail from DAFIT and Leslie Norton from CIDA also respond to questions.
