In Committee from the House of Commons - Status of Women - April 23, 2013

Status of Women

Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt and Status of Women Minister Rona Ambrose discuss the government's legislation to update matrimonial property laws for individuals living on reserves. Bill S-2 would provide legal protection to ensure that assets are distributed equitably for couples in the event of a relationship breakdown or the death of a spouse or common-law partner. The legislation would also allow judges to issue emergency protection orders and remove a violent partner from the home.
