In Committee from the House of Commons
Finance - October 29, 2013
MPs have a full agenda for the three-hour meeting, first dealing with motions from NDP MPs Peggy Nash and Murray Rankin, and from Andrew Saxton, the parliamentary secretary for the minister of finance. The latter's motion concerns the ability of independent MPs to introduce amendments to bills during the report stage in the House. A similar motion was presented last week at the Procedure and House Affairs committee. Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz discusses the highlights of the bank's latest monetary policy report. Senior Deputy Governor Tiff Macklem also responds to questions about the October report. New Parliamentary Budget Officer Jean-Denis Frechette provides an economic and fiscal outlook update. The meeting marks his first appearance before a parliamentary committee. His colleague Mostafa Askari also testifies. (October 29, 2013)
