In Committee from the House of Commons
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities - April 1, 2014
The committee reviews the Canadian Transportation Safety Regime: Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Safety Management Systems. Wendy A. Tadros, chair of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, testifies on her department’s top priorities in light of a number of high profile railway accidents, including the tragic derailment in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. Also appearing from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are Kathy Fox, Kirby Jang, and Jean L. Laporte, who respond to questions on safety management systems, the classification of dangerous goods, and rail standards. Forming the second panel of witnesses are David Jeanes, president of Transport Action Canada, and Daniel Gardner, a law professor at Laval University, who discuss the need for positive train control and the need to change victim compensation systems.
