In Committee from the House of Commons
Foreign Affairs and International Development - September 9, 2014
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and Defence Minister Rob Nicholson brief MPs on the decision to deploy Canadian Armed Forces personnel to Iraq. The committee also hears from General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff, and Andrew Bennett, Canada's ambassador for religious freedom. Up to 100 military advisers will be sent to Iraq for 30 days to help with that country's fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement last week on the final day of a two-day NATO summit in Newport, Wales. (September 9, 2014)
