In Committee from the House of Commons
Public Accounts - October 30, 2014
Auditor General Michael Ferguson discusses the chapter from his spring 2014 report dealing with Statistics Canada. While his office found that Statistics Canada provides accurate and timely data, some improvements are necessary in order to meet users' needs. The audit found that the needs for data from small geographic areas and subpopulations in specific locations are not being met, and that the agency consulted less with the private sector, municipalities, and non-governmental organizations. Canada's chief statistician responds to the audit. Wayne Smith informs the committee that his agency agrees with the recommendations and that it has already began to implement an action plan.
