In Committee from the House of Commons - Subcommittee on International Human Rights - February 5, 2015

A trio of Venezuelan human rights activists draw attention to the persecution of political opponents and the deteriorating human rights situation in their country.
MPs first hear from Diana López, director of the human rights initiative Acción por la Libertad and sister of Leopoldo López. Her brother is an opposition leader who was imprisoned a year ago. Orlando Viera-Blanco, attorney for former presidential candidate and Member of the National Assembly María Corina Machado, testifies next. His client was recently charged with treason. Carlos Vecchio, co-founder of opposition party Voluntad Popular, rounds out the panel. (February 5, 2015)
