Assistant Auditor General Jerome Berthelette and his colleague Dawn Campbell discuss the mental health services for veterans. Their office’s fall audit concluded that while Veterans Affairs Canada had put in place important mental health supports, in many cases the Department was not doing enough to facilitate veterans’ timely access to mental health services and benefits. Michel D. Doiron, assistant deputy minister of service delivery at Veterans Affairs Canada, and Dr. Cyd Courchesne, director general of health professionals and national medical officer, outline the Department’s mental health action plan. Brigadier-General Jean-Robert Bernier, surgeon general of the Canadian Forces Health Services Group, talks about the measures taken by the Canadian Forces to address the auditor general’s recommendations.
