In Committee from the House of Commons
Procedure and House Affairs - May 7, 2015
Canada’s chief electoral officer Marc Mayrand discusses the main estimates for Elections Canada. He provides details on issues such as the budget for the upcoming federal election, and new or improved services for electors. Mayrand then provides testimony on the Citizen Voting Act. Bill C-50 was introduced in response to a 2014 Ontario Superior Court ruling that struck down a law that prevented Canadians from voting if they lived abroad for more than five consecutive years. Mayrand outlines some of his concerns with certain aspects of the legislation and proposes some amendments. (May 7, 2015)
