The committee continues its hearings on doctor-assisted death. Appearing during the first panel are the following witnesses: Carmela Hutchison (president of the DisAbled Women's Network of Canada), Alliance of People with Disabilities Who Are Supportive of Legal Assisted Dying Society representatives Angus M. Gunn (counsel) and Margaret Birrell (president), and McGill University ethics professor Margaret Somerville (as an individual). The committee then hears from Dr. John Soles (president of the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada), Dr. Hartley Stern (executive director and C.E.O. of the Canadian Medical Protective Association), Michael Bach (executive vice-president of the Canadian Association for Community Living), and constitutional lawyer Gerald Chipeur, who represented the intervenor Christian Legal Fellowship in opposing assisted death in the Carter case at the Supreme Court of Canada.
