In Committee from the House of Commons
Citizenship and Immigration - July 18, 2016 - Part 1
The committee is holding summer meetings to study immigration measures to protect vulnerable groups. It will be examining ways for Canada to support vulnerable groups in inaccessible regions, including accelerated resettlement and other humanitarian measures. The committee was influenced to undertake the study by the recent United Nations report about the plight of the Yazidi people. MPs first hear from senior government officials Heather Jeffrey (director general for international humanitarian assistance) from Global Affairs Canada, as well as Robert Orr (assistant deputy minister for operations) and Sarita Bhatla (director general of refugee affairs) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Michael Casasola (officer in charge at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) is on the second panel. (July 18, 2016)
