In Committee from the House of Commons
Citizenship and Immigration - May 29, 2017
The committee begins its study on immigration to Atlantic Canada. The study was initiated by a private member's motion (M-39) sponsored by Liberal MP Alaina Lockhart. MPs first hear from senior Citizenship and Immigration officials Laurie Hunter, Corinne Prince and Ümit Kiziltan. Provincial ministers then offer their views on the issue. Donald Arseneault (New Brunswick Minister of Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour) and Sonny Gallant (Prince Edward Island Minister of Workforce and Advanced Learning) discuss challenges as well as some immigration initiatives. Assistant deputy minister Charles Ayles (Government of New Brunswick) and deputy minister Neil Stewart (Government of Prince Edward Island) also testify. The committee resumes its study on immigration consultants during the last part of the meeting, with testimony from senior Citizenship and Immigration officials Michael MacDonald and David Cashaback.
