MPs Study Impact of Indigenous Languages Bill on Education and Women
Canadian Heritage – February 28, 2019: Committee members continue their study of Bill C-91, the government’s Indigenous languages protection plan. Issues raised include the importance of Indigenous languages in education, the role of women in protecting heritage, and the concerns of several individual Indigenous leaders, including from the Cree Nation. Appearing before the committee are Native Women’s Association of Canada’s Francyne Joe and Casey Hunley, Cree Nation Government’s Grand Chief Abel Bosum, Tina Petawabano, Sarah Pashagumskum and Paul Joffe, and Margaret (Kaweienón:ni) Peters, Vivian (Siipiisai’pia’ki) Ayoungman, Grand Chief Wilton Littlechild and Chief Gerald Antoine as individuals.
