Public Hearings on Accommodation Practices – Saguenay, Que.
The Consultation Commission on Accommodation Practices Related to Cultural Differences (the “Bouchard–Taylor Commission”) was established in February 2007 by Quebec Premier Jean Charest. The public consultation program includes a number of public hearings focusing on issues relating to the protection of ethno-cultural minority rights while also respecting the rights of larger demographics within Quebec. This September 20, 2007, hearing in Saguenay, Que., includes briefs and testimonials by Marthe Asselin-Vaillancourt (AQDR’s Jonquière chapter), Patrick Lalande (Portes ouvertes sur le Lac), Jean Tremblay (mayor of Saguenay), and also from various citizens speaking as individuals.
