The Air India Inquiry – November 1, 2007

Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

Witnesses: Raf Souccar, Michel Aubin

Raf Souccar (Assistant Commissioner, Federal International Organization for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)) and Michel Aubin (the acting director-general of the drugs and organized crime unit of the RCMP) continue to testify under direct examination by Commission Counsel Michel Dorval. Mr. Dorval asks the witnesses a series of questions about the details of the Royal Canadian Mounted Polices (RCMP) witness protection program. Jacques Shore (Counsel for the Air India Victims’ Families Association) proceeds with cross-examination of the witnesses. Mr. Shore asks about the role of legal counsel for potential candidates for the witness protection program, about translation services provided to witnesses who speak neither English nor French, and about various aspects of the administration of the witness protection program in different contexts. Charleen Brenzall (Counsel for the Attorney General of Canada) briefly cross-examines the witnesses. Questions focus on the role of the severity of the offence in determining eligibility for the witness protection program.
