Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

Witness: Robert Simmonds

Robert Simmonds (former Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)) testifies under direct examination by Commission Counsel Mark J. Freiman. Mr. Freiman asks Mr. Simmonds about the creation of the security service within the RCMP, the role of the security service within the RCMP, and various aspects of the transition from the RCMP’s security service to the new Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) in 1984. Jacques Shore (Counsel for the Air India Victims’ Families Association) cross-examines Mr. Simmonds, asking about the obtaining of information from CSIS. Mr. Freiman asks some brief follow-up questions.
