The Air India Inquiry – November 15, 2007 (Part 2 of 4)

Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182

Witnesses: Dave S. Hayer, Isabelle Martinez Hayer, Laurie MacDonell

The Commission continues to hear testimony from Dave S. Hayer (Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and son of Tara Singh Hayer, an Indo-Canadian journalist and publisher who was shot in response to his articles opposing the Sikh separatist movement). Norman Boxall (Counsel for the Air India Victims’ Families Association) cross-examines Mr. Hayer, asking him about the Sikh separatist movement, about his sense that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) did not take the Air India bombing seriously, and about his suggestions for improving the image of the RCMP within the Sikh community in Canada. Dave S. Hayer’s sister, Isabelle Martinez-Hayer, also responds to Mr. Boxall’s questions. Loretta Colton (Counsel for the Attorney General of Canada) cross-examines Dave S. Hayer. Laurie MacDonell (a member of the RCMP) testifies under direct examination by Commission Counsel Anil Kapoor about his work on the Air India investigation, his relationship with Tara Singh Hayer, and related matters.
