Province-Wide Hearings on Accommodation Practices – Montreal, Que.
This December 13, 2007, hearing in Montreal, Que., includes briefs from Victor Goldbloom (president of the Quebec division of the Canadian Jewish Congress), Christiane Pelchat (president of the Conseil du statut de la femme du Québéc), and René Mantha (general manager of the Fondation des entreprises en recrutement de main-d’œuvre agricole étrangère (FERME)), among others. The Consultation Commission on Accommodation Practices Related to Cultural Differences (the “Bouchard–Taylor Commission”) was established in February 2007 by Quebec Premier Jean Charest. The public consultation program includes a number of province-wide public hearings focusing on issues relating to the protection of ethno-cultural minority rights while also respecting the rights of larger demographics within Quebec.
