The Oliphant Inquiry – March 24, 2009
Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney Following an earlier ruling on standards for assessing the conduct of holders of public office, the Commission hears a motion by counsel for Mr. Mulroney seeking to clarify those standards. Guy Pratte (Counsel for Mr. Mulroney) makes a submission requesting clarification of the potential role in the Commission’s findings of the Standing Orders of the House of Commons and statutes such as the Parliament of Canada Act, the Financial Administration Act, the Income Tax Act, the Excise Tax Act, and the Criminal Code. Mr. Pratte also asks for clarification of the time period to which the standards might apply. Paul Vickery (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada) and Richard Auger (Counsel for Mr. Schreiber) make submissions and Mr. Pratte responds. The Commissioner reserves his decision.
