The Oliphant Inquiry – April 15, 2009 (Part 2 of 2)

Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witness: Karlheinz Schreiber

The Commission continues to hear testimony from Mr. Schreiber, the former chair of Bear Head Industries, with Lead Commission Counsel Richard Wolson resuming examination. Mr. Schreiber speaks about a meeting with Mr. Mulroney at the Pierre Hotel in New York City in December 1994, during which he allegedly gave Mr. Mulroney $100,000 in cash to lobby for the Bear Head Project, a proposed manufacturing plant for military vehicles to be built in Montreal, Quebec. Mr. Schreiber is asked about his learning of the federal government’s cancellation of the Bear Head Project and about a February 1998 meeting with Mr. Mulroney in Zurich, Switzerland, during which Mr. Mulroney allegedly sought assurances that Mr. Schreiber had not kept any evidence of his cash payments. Mr. Schreiber also speaks about his lawsuits against Luc Lavoie and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and about a December 1999 meeting with Fred Doucet.
