Inquiries on CPAC - The Oliphant Inquiry – April 21, 2009 (Part 1 of 2)

Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witness: Greg Alford

Commission Counsel Evan Roitenberg conducts examination of Greg Alford (former Vice-President, Corporate Affairs at Bear Head Industries). Mr. Alford describes attempts by the German corporation Thyssen to secure the cooperation of the Canadian government for the Bear Head Project, a manufacturing plant to build military vehicles for international export in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He is questioned in detail about efforts to establish an international market for the vehicles and denies knowledge of Mr. Mulroney’s work promoting the Bear Head project beginning in 1993. Under cross-examination by Robert Houston (Counsel for Fred Doucet), Mr. Alford is asked about his work for the lobbying firm GCI and about Mr. Doucet’s work for Bear Head.
