Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witness: Elmer MacKay

The Commission hears testimony from Elmer MacKay (a former federal cabinet minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), with Commission Counsel Evan Roitenberg conducting examination. Appearing via video teleconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mr. MacKay describes his support, while a member of Mr. Mulroney’s cabinet, for the Bear Head Project, a proposed manufacturing plant for military vehicles to be built in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He also speaks about his relationship with Mr. Schreiber and his prompting of a letter of apology from Mr. Schreiber to Mr. Mulroney in light of the emergence of reports in the press about their business dealings.
