Commission of Inquiry into Certain Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney

Witness: Karlheinz Schreiber

Following a procedural discussion concerning Mr. Schreiber’s availability to appear before the inquiry, the Commission hears further testimony from Mr. Schreiber. Under examination by Lead Commission Counsel Richard Wolson, Mr. Schreiber is asked about the use of funds from a Swiss bank account code-named “Britan” to make a series of cash payments to Mr. Mulroney. Mr. Schreiber is questioned about records of phone calls to Elmer MacKay coinciding with the payments to Mr. Mulroney and later denies telling Mr. MacKay about his business dealings with Mr. Mulroney. He is also asked about the frequency of his meetings with Mr. Mulroney prior to 1993. There are further cross-examinations by Robert Houston (Counsel for Fred Doucet) and Richard Auger (Counsel for Mr. Schreiber), focusing on details of Mr. Schreiber’s banking records.
