Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witnesses: Odilon Émond, Allen Burchill

The Commission continues to hear testimony on the use of sponsorship funds for the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Associate Commission Counsel Guy Cournoyer concludes direct examination of Odilon Émond (former Assistant Commissioner of “C” Division of the RCMP). Richard Dearden (Counsel for the Office of the Auditor General) cross-examines the witness, focusing on the use of sponsorship funds for the purchase of horses. There is a brief cross-examination by Sylvain Lussier (on behalf of the Attorney General of Canada). Allen Burchill (former Assistant Commissioner of “H” Division of the RCMP) testifies. Under examination by Mr. Cournoyer, Mr. Burchill speaks about his payment by Gosselin Communication for work on the 125th anniversary. Mr. Lussier conducts a short cross-examination.
