Inquiries on CPAC - The Gomery Inquiry – February 8, 2005 (Part 4 of 4)

Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities

Witness: Jean Chrétien

Commission Counsel Bernard Roy concludes direct examination of Jean Chrétien, the former prime minister of Canada, with questions focusing on Mr. Chrétien’s reaction to the 2004 report of the Auditor General. There is a short cross-examination by Pierre Fournier (Counsel for Alfonso Gagliano) followed by questions from David W. Scott (Counsel for Mr. Chrétien). In response to earlier derisive remarks made by the Commissioner in a press interview, Mr. Chrétien defends his office’s ordering of golf balls and other promotional items. He delightedly presents an array of souvenir golf balls given to him by high-profile politicians and by the law firm Ogilvy Renault.
