The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Maureen Girvan

Marlys Edwardh (Counsel for Mr. Arar) concludes cross-examination of Maureen Girvan (former manager of the Consular Services Section of the Canadian Consulate General in New York). Ms. Girvan describes the actions of consular officials around the time of Mr. Arar’s detention in New York in September and October 2002. Testimony focuses on Ms. Girvan’s dealings with the Center for Constitutional Rights and on the confidentiality of consular files. Sylvie Roussel (Counsel for Ms. Girvan) questions Ms. Girvan, seeking clarification on several details.
