The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Robert Fry

Commission Counsel Marc David continues examination of Robert Fry (former Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs). Mr. Fry describes his role as a liaison between the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAIT) and the minister’s office and the involvement of the minister in Mr. Arar’s case. He discusses ongoing contact with the Syrian ambassador to Canada, the office of the Solicitor General, Amnesty International, Monia Mazigh (Mr. Arar’s spouse), and Senator Pierre De Bané. He is asked about attempts by DFAIT to obtain consensus among Canadian agencies in seeking Mr. Arar’s release from Syria.
