The Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar

Witness: Gar Pardy

Henry Garfield (Gar) Pardy (former Director General of Consular Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)) is questioned by Commission Counsel Paul J. J. Cavalluzzo. Mr. Pardy is asked about access to Consular Affairs case notes by officials in the DFAIT Security and Intelligence Division, about his contact with Mr. Arar’s family, about the actions of consular officials in New York in October 2002, about DFAIT assumptions concerning the likelihood of torture, and about the contents of a report by the Syrian Human Rights Committee.
